Evaluation of technical-tactical control in overhead strokes in high-performance badminton in Cuba

Abstract
Control is an essential component in sports training and performance, particularly in disciplines like badminton. This study aimed to evaluate the technical-tactical control of overhead strokes in high-performance badminton players in Cuba, identifying strengths and weaknesses in their execution. The methodology combined qualitative and quantitative approaches, including direct observations in 24 training sessions, semi-structured interviews with coaches, surveys to gather perceptions about technical-tactical control, and a review of training plans. The study population consisted of 22 coaches with significant experience in badminton. The main results revealed concerning deficiencies in technical-tactical control, with 70% of decisions being ineffective in the cognitive-decisional dimension and 72.9% of actions classified as deficient in the executive-situational dimension. Error management and resilience showed critical scores, demonstrating the athletes' inability to learn from their mistakes and adapt to adverse situations. The findings underscore the urgent need to establish modeled control methodologies that integrate technical and tactical aspects and recommend implementing training programs for coaches that foster a holistic approach to athlete development, in order to optimize performance and improve the ability to make effective decisions in competition. This research provided a theoretical and practical framework that could positively impact the preparation and development of badminton players in Cuba.
